The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sefwi Wiawso, Dominic Gyasi, has announced plans to repair faulty streetlights and install new ones across key parts of the municipality ahead of the Christmas season.
According to Mr. Gyasi, the works will cover Wiawso, Dwenase and surrounding communities, and are aimed at improving security, public safety and night visibility during the Yuletide.
In an interview with TV3’s Western North Regional Correspondent, Mathew Ahiaveh, the MCE said the initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader commitment to strengthening security within the Central Business District and other busy areas as residents prepare for the festive period.
Mr. Gyasi, however, expressed concern over the growing number of illegal structures erected under high-tension electricity lines. He described the practice as dangerous and unacceptable, cautioning that the Assembly will take firm action to remove all unauthorised structures.
He urged traders and individuals planning to put up temporary or permanent structures for business purposes to first obtain the necessary permits from the Municipal Assembly.
He further added that the Physical Planning Department of the Assembly will soon embark on an enforcement exercise to clear unauthorised structures, particularly those along roads and waterways.
According to him, the exercise is intended to prevent disasters and ensure strict enforcement of planning laws against illegal development.
Mr. Gyasi assured residents of the Assembly’s commitment to creating a safer, well-lit and orderly environment as the municipality heads into the festive season.
