Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh says work will soon resume on the La General Hospital redevelopment project, maintaining there was no dedicated funding for the project by the previous government.
The reconstruction of the La General Hospital has lingered since 2020 after the old facility was demolished. After more than 5 years since its demolition, the 164-bed facility is yet to be completed for the people of La and its environs.
The facility’s master layout includes, along with accommodation for staff members, the main hospital building, an oxygen production plant, a services building, a mortuary, and a car park.
According to the Minister, government has now made available some funds to complete the project.
Speaking on Hot Issues with Keminni Amanor on TV3 Sunday, August 24, 2025, he assured the residents of La that he will engage the contractor to return to site soon.
“…so, La General Hospital too, what we realised is that, the contractor has done some work which needed to be paid and he was not paid so, work is not progressing as expected,” he stated.
He added that “allocation of about GHC120 million has been made in the 2025 Budget and therefore, very soon …the Member of Parliament is on my neck and very soon I am going to engage the contractor and then assure them that the money has been made available and so they should go back.’’
He also Minister also noted that none of the Agenda 111 projects is functional at the moment.
