Fisherfolk at the Nkotompo Landing Beach in the Western Region could not hide their joy as they received their first-ever consignment of premix fuel.

For over 60 years, Nkotompo Landing Beach has been neglected in the supply of premix fuel, compelling fishermen to travel to Sekondi or Shama to buy premix, making their job difficult as they incur additional cost in conveying the premix back to the community.

Nana Akomah, the Chief Fisherman of Nkotompo, described the prolonged neglect as a major setback that had crippled fishing activities in the area. However, he expressed optimism that this first consignment would breathe new life into the local fishing industry.

“This neglect has hurt us for too long, but today, we see hope. With this supply, we can finally focus on our work without the stress of searching for fuel,” he said.

The much-anticipated delivery has not only eased operational challenges but has also reignited hope among the community.

Fisherfolks extended their gratitude to the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, and Member of Parliament for the area, Blay Armah Nyamekeye, whose intervention made the supply possible.

Kwamina Thompson, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Sekondi, emphasized that the delivery was the fulfillment of a promise made by the MP. He assured the community that efforts would be made to ensure a continuous supply of premix fuel for Nkotompo.

“This is not just a one-time gesture it is the beginning of a commitment to ensure that Nkotompo’s fishing industry thrives,” he stated.

With this breakthrough, fisherfolk at Nkotompo are hopeful that their struggles are finally behind them.
