The Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari II has appealed to President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Economic Management team to negotiate a good deal with the IMF to restore the economy and control spiraling food prices in the country.

He said, negotiating a good deal with the IMF would support the government to deliver its optimum to the Ghanaian People.

President Akufo-Addo was at the Gbewaa Palace at Yendi to pay a courtesy call on the Ya-Na as part of his three day working visit to the region.

In a speech read on his behalf, Ya-Naa Abukari urged government to negotiate a good deal with the IMF.

“Mr. President, I know you have started negotiations with the IMF. I wish you and your team well and to also urge you to do a good negotiation,” he said.

He also called on the president to ensure the speedy execution of the Yendi Water project.

“The Yendi water project which you cut sod for work to begin is still hanging and I want to appeal to you to deliver on your promise of giving me and my people water,” he reminded.

He applauded government for the various social intervention programmes especially the Planting for Food and Jobs.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Yendi, President Akufo-Addo commended the Ya-Na for his support and advice.

He noted, the NPP government led by him, has proven to be better managers of the economy and reiterated his commitment to ensuring a good deal with the IMF.

“Ya-Na, you are the first traditional ruler to urge me and my government in this step towards regaining our momentum on the economy and I am happy and assure you we will deliver a good negotiations”

“I took over a country of IMF and managed out of it until the COVID-19 pandemic struck and recently the Russian – Ukraine invasion”

President Akufo-Addo later cut sod for the construction of a 2.5 kilometre dual carriage Yendi township roads under the Eastern corridor road project.

He also inspected some agenda 111 hospital projects in Saboba and Mion as well as a youth sports centre at Yendi.

He is expected to continue with day two of his tour with a visit to Bimbilla and Kpandai.
