President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo thinks the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama cannot implement his most touted policy –24-hour economy — heading into the December 07 elections.

He says the former President’s ambition lacks clear substance and clarity, adding that, he could not provide sustainable power to Ghanaians during his tenure in office.

As part of his policies, the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised to run a 24-hour economy where one job would be done by three persons on three different shifts.

He says the initiative will give unemployed Ghanaians an opportunity to secure themselves some jobs in the two additional shifts that would be added to the already existing one.

John Mahama says he will provide security, subsidise electricity cost and give tax incentives to private institutions that will subscribe to the policy to employ more hands to reduce unemployment in the country.

The policy, according to the NDC, will not be mandatory for the private sector but for companies that will be willing to enroll voluntarily to provide them with the spelt incentives to implement it.

But President Akufo-Addo, speaking to religious and traditional leaders, as well as New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Tema West Sunday, December 01, 2024, stated that Mahama lacks fresh ideas to lead the nation.

He admonished Ghanaians to reject Mahama and choose Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who is more qualified to take over from him.

“What is he [John Dramani Mahama] coming to do? 24-hour economy. You couldn’t keep the lights on in the four years in which you were in power for 12 hours a day.

“How are you going to run a 24-hour economy when 12 hours a day, you couldn’t keep the lights on? You couldn’t pay the teacher training allowance. You couldn’t pay nurses training allowance,” said Akufo-Addo.
