Nana Kwame Jantuah, a leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), is asking whether President Akufo-Addo was able to protect the public purse as he told Ghanaians or not.
Kwame Jantuah says the Akufo-Addo administration, despite criticising its predecessor for wasting state funds and resorting to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) did not do anything different upon assumption of office.
He contends the President assured Ghanaians of not indulging in wanting dissipation of state resources but tend to do it more than what he criticised.
He said the President has literally consumed the marrow in the bone he claims he inherited from the previous administration, making him worse than his predecessor.
“I shall protect the public purse. Would you say the public purse is protected? He came in with the previous government taking us to IMF you kicked against it. You said all the meat around the bone had been eaten, but you have come and you’ve cracked the bone and eaten the marrow. Absolutely nothing there, we are back at IMF. So, how did you protect the public purse?” he quizzed.
Mr. Jantuah’s question was in relation to the upcoming final State of the Nation Address to be delivered by President Akufo-Addo.
President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SoNA) today, Friday, January 03, 2025, in Parliament before exiting office as President of the Republic.
The address is to be delivered prior to the dissolution of the 8th Parliament before the 9th Parliament will be inaugurated on January 07, 2025.
This, as contained in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, grants the President the opportunity to let Ghanaians know the state in which the country is, before exiting office as President.
