Ghana’s Black Satellites secured a semi-final berth in the ongoing African Games after a lone-goal victory over Benin in men’s football Group A.

It was the first soccer match of the Games at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

Having drawn goalless with Congo in their first game and recovered to beat The Gambia 3-1 in their second game, the Satellites needed at least a draw on Friday to make it to the semis.

Jerry Afriyie delivered the needed booster as he slotted the ball in the goal of the Beninois in the 34th minute.

Another chance that came his way was misguided as the ball hit his shoulder to go over the bar.

The two sides, therefore, went into the break with Afriyie’s separator.

No more goals were scored, keeping the score 1-0 against Benin.

The result sends the hosts through to face Senegal in the semis on Tuesday, March 19.

Senegal managed to beat Nigeria 3-2 on Friday to join perfect starters Uganda in Group B.

The Senegalese beat the Flying Eagles 3-2 to make it to the medal zone.

Uganda, who beat both Nigeria and Senegal, secured a 1-0 win over South Sudan in their final group game.
