The Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has assured Ghanaians that he is committed to the peace of the country ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He said this when the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) paid a courtesy call on him in Parliament to promote peace and unity during the 2024 election.
The GNACOPS delegation which consists of teachers and pupils from some selected private schools was led by Obento Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, the national executive director of GNACOPS.
The delegation entreated the Speaker to use his influence in this crucial time in Ghana’s democracy to promote peace before, during and after the elections. They praised the Speaker for his exemplary achievements and for showing the youth that peaceful coexistence is the true haul mark of a democratic society.
Speaker Alban Bagbin stated, “I’m more than committed to the peace of this nation.”
He assured GNACOPS of free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections. He also stated that as part of the 30-years of Ghana’s parliamentary democracy celebrations, he organised a seminary lecture in Tamale where experts were brought in to get everyone on board to appreciate the value of peace in our society.
Addressing the delegation, Mr. Speaker also mentioned the introduction of the democracy cup initiative where the passion for the nation’s football was used as a tool to spread the message of peace.
“The foundation of life is peace,” Mr Bagbin said.
He congratulated GNACOPS for adding their voice to the peace initiative and for instilling this message in the learners from a very young age for they are the future leaders of this nation.
