Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minority Leader, has expressed disappointment in the Finance Minister for his failure to abolish any of the taxes the government has introduced since it assumed power.

The Minority Leader has described the Minister’s failure to abolish any of the taxes as a “missed opportunity”, describing the entire government machinery and the caucus as being bereft of new ideas.

He has criticised the government for presenting a budget which he says did not provide any hope for Ghanaians.

The Ajumako Enyan Essiam Member of Parliament says the failure to abolish any of the taxes means the hardship on the citizens remain unchanged.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament after the Finance Minister’s presentation of the Mid-Year Budget review, Dr. Ato Forson indicated that the government failed to abolish “E-levy, Covid-19 levy, tariff on domestic electricity, ‘borla’ levy” among others describing the Finance Minister’s refusal to abolish any of the taxes as a “missed opportunity.”

He continued that “they have already missed the IMF programme target.”

According to the MP, “Ghana is on auto-pilot” adding that the government has accumulated an arrears of GHC4.5billion already.

He said the ‘abamu awie‘,” the Majority caucus sang after the presentation suggests “they are on their way to opposition.”

Meanwhile, prior to the statement, Yapei Kusawgu Member of Parliament, John Abdulai Jinapor, noted that he didn’t expect any relief for Ghanaians from the budget.
