Some Ghanaians are planning a three-day protest from October 3 to October 5, 2024, for the release of the persons arrested during the Democracy Hub protest.
The activists say they will commence their demonstration from Legon Okponglo to the Black Star Square in Accra.
According to them, the 53 persons who were arrested during the #StopGalamsey protest slated between September 21 to 23, 2024 must be released saying their detention is illegal.
The demonstration, being organised under two slogans; “FreeTheCitizens” and “SayNoToGalamsey,” also aim to preach against the illegal mining menace also known as ‘galamsey’ which is causing environmental destruction.
Earlier this week, the police approved the designated routes for the march, namely; Legon Stadium – Okponglo Traffic Light – Shiashie/Standard Board Traffic Light – Shangri La – Airport Traffic Light – Association International School – National Service Secretariat – Castle Kawukudi – Kanda Highway – Accra High School Junction – Electoral Commission Office – Ridge – Ridge Hospital – AU Roundabout – Parliament – Osu Cemetery – Accra Sports Stadium – Independence Square.
Mobilisation efforts have been strong on social media, with thousands of participants expected to join the demonstration.
The protest is anticipated to draw attention to both the plight of the arrested activists and the ongoing fight against illegal mining activities across the country.
