President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that Ghana is “at a crossroads where digital technology is no longer an option, but an imperative.”
He has reemphasised how digital technology is paramount in the country’s “transformation agenda, aimed at creating an inclusive digital ecosystem, is critical for job creation, economic diversification, and global competitiveness.”
The President, making these remarks at the launch of 5G in Ghana noted that the technology has come to “reshape how we live, work, and interact”, adding that the milestone is a reaffirmation of the country’s “commitment to a future where technology empowers every Ghanaian.”
He also added that the 5G operation in the country will help build “on strategic investments in digital infrastructure, national identification systems, and mobile interoperability.”
“This 5G launch positions Ghana to embrace a future that is connected, agile, and responsive. 5G technology will have a transformative impact on our national landscape. Its high speed, minimal latency, and enhanced capacity will drive our agenda forward,” President Akufo-Addo added.
The President also established that the introduction of 5G would aid in “embedding the internet of things, artificial intelligence, and data analytics into daily life across Ghana, from urban centers to remote villages. In health, education, agriculture, and security, 5G will enable innovations that enhance service accessibility and affordability.
“We can envisage healthcare consultations conducted remotely, real-time crop monitoring, and access to educational content in even the remotest regions.”
