Seven persons have been confirmed dead by the Ghana National Fire Service in an accident at Nkawanda 2 on the Nkawkaw-Kumasi highway in the Eastern Region.

Ten others who sustained injuries of various degrees are receiving medical treatment at the Holy Family Hospital.

The accident occurred around late afternoon Tuesday August 26, between a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AW 4619 – 20 and a diesel trailer.

The sprinter bus was mangled while the man diesel trailer had its front partially damaged.

The deceased include children and women. Fire service personnel with assistance from residents, police and ambulance services rescued victims.

The cause of the accident is yet to be investigated by the Ghana Police.

The Kumasi-Nkawkaw-Accra highway continues to record accident cases on daily basis. Portions of the road have potholes while some portions are under construction.

Amidst this situation, drivers continue to speed disregarding road regulations.
