Nine persons believed to be of Fulbe extraction who were migrating from Prang, in the Bono-East Region to central Gonja District of the Savannah Region have died after a boat on which they were traveling capsized on the Volta Lake.

Seven passengers on the boat are reported missing.

The incident happened on Wednesday April 8 between Adavukpe and Sikakpe in the Central Gonja District.

The deceased are women and children. Nine bodies have since been retrieved as search for the remaining seven continuous.

According to sources, the boat on which they were traveling capsized following a slight wind.

“We tried to save them when the accident happened, but the wind was too strong and the victims were afraid,” the driver of the boat, Edmond Akli, recounted in an interview with 3news.
