The body of a young lady has been retrieved while another is still missing after three people were swept away by the sea at Aboadze in the Shama District of the Western Region.
One other person who was rescued alive is currently receiving treatment at a health facility.
Reports indicate the victims were part of a group of eleven young people who traveled from Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region to the area after being promised job opportunities in Aboadze.
According to the Assembly Member for the area, Emmanuel Avevor, the group arrived last Monday and later decided to visit the beach where the tragic incident occurred.
“Three individuals, a male and a female drowned in the sea yesterday. So far, the lady has been found and identified as Veronica, 18 years old. The identity of the male is not yet known. They are from Kumasi Abuakwa and were part of a group of eleven who came around after being promised a job at Aboadze. They arrived last Monday and decided to go swimming in the sea at Aboadze. All eleven went to the beach, but the sea swept three of them away, “he indicated.
According to him, rescuers are still searching for the remaining body. He adds that their families have since been informed.
“Rescuers are still at sea searching for the missing body. Their families have been informed, and we are waiting for them to arrive so that we can obtain the necessary information for investigations to begin,” Mr. Avevor added.
