Some forty eight (48) villages have been moved from the Central Region to Greater Accra Region by the Court of Appeal.
This comes after a 50-year-old protracted litigation which has had some rulings and appeals until the final one on July 7, 2022.
A divisional chief of Jamestown Ngleshie Amanfrom, Nii Kwashie Gborlor has been telling Onua TV’s Akua Sarpomaa how 27 out of the 48 villages they won in 1994 was re-added to the Central Region during an administration boundary allocation in the year 2000.
“…Before the administrative boundary was created in 2000, all the area was part of Amanfrom. When it happened that the boundary was to be effected, we moved part of our lands to the Central Region because Accra was choked.
“This case started 50 years ago, 1972 and was litigated up till 1984 when it was ruled against us, that we Ngleshie Amanfrom have taken others land and we made an appeal in 1994 and we won. But we were given 27 villages so we litigated for the remaining 41,” he disclosed.
Nii Gborlor explained further that when the court asked all appellants to go to the location to point out the portions they were claiming to the stakeholders, none of them expressed interest in any of the 48 lands they –Jamestown Ngleshie Amanfrom were claiming.
“The Appeals Court ordered that all claimants visit the land with court authorities to show where each of them said belonged to them. But all the claimants did not show any interest in any of the 48 villages Amanfrom were talking about. It clearly showed the 48 villages and 40.2 mile square land also belonged to us.
“So in 2018, Criminal Court IV presided over by Justice Mensah-Datse gave a judgement and took back the lands from us and gave us 16 villages. We appealed again and on 7th July of this year, the judgement came and the 48 villages and 40.2 miles square land were given to us,” he explained.
