Nine people are feared dead following flooding in a greater part of the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

Several residents have been displaced and properties also destroyed as a result of the heavy rains on June 29.

According to members of the Dokutsekope community in the Awutu Senya East municipality in the Central Region, the flood was devastating.

The flood waters reached window levels of buildings, displacing the residents in the community.

In neighbouring Gao line and Kpormetey, the situation was not spared. Rescuers from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and security agencies had to rely on canoes to assist victims trapped in their houses.

Joseph Gwensen, leader of the rescue team said several people, including children were trapped in the community.

Meanwhile, some residents were disappointed by the lack of logistics for the NADMO to conduct effective rescue operations.

They called on government to resource the NADMO.
