The government has announced the conclusion of the scheme to provide tickets for Ghanaian football fans to watch Black Stars games at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the scheme was for the group stage of the tournament.

“Under the scheme, Government procured a limited number of tickets for Ghana’s three group-stage matches only,” the statement said.

“These tickets were not for commercial sale, but formed part of a coordinated national support intervention for selected Ghanaian supporters, recognised supporter groups, sponsors, stakeholders and diaspora community structures.”

According to the breakdown, 948 tickets were procured for Ghana’s 1-0 win over Panama, 1,000 for the goalless draw against England and 974 for the 1-2 loss to Croatia.

“The distribution process was coordinated through Ghana’s Missions in Canada and the United States, recognised Ghanaian associations, supporter groups, sponsors and stakeholder channels.

“As part of the process, the Missions submitted limited lists from Ghanaian communities after consultations with established and recognised associations and community groups.”

It said those who wish to watch any Black Stars match at the tournament should directly visit FIFA’a ticketing platforms or through any accredited and authorised ticketing agencies.

The Ministry expressed appreciation to the country’s missions in Canada and USA as well as all other stakeholders.

It promised to publish lists of beneficiaries of the scheme.
