Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says reshuffling the Minority Leadership was due to lack of cooperation with the Speaker.

He made the statement whilst speaking with the NDC UK/Ireland Chapter.

“My priorities in Parliament is to see cooperation in Parliament and to see our Parliamentary caucus working together and also cooperating with the Speaker of Parliament.

“Why did we struggle to get an NDC person elected as the Speaker of Parliament? There are certainly some advantages and those advantages can be tapped into when your leadership is cooperating with the Speaker of Parliament,” the National Chairman stated.

He added that: “So we cannot have a situation where the NPP leadership is cooperating with the Speaker while our leadership the NDC has challenges in cooperating with the Speaker. If you are given a party whose leadership is not working together what will you do? You make the changes or you resign and I am not ready to resign.”

The NDC has made changes in its leadership in Parliament making Haruna Iddrisu make way for Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minority Leader.

Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi, was also changed for Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, with Governs Kwame Agbodza replacing Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak as Minority Chief Whip.

Both Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyoe Ghansah maintained their positions as deputy Minority Whips.

This has brought division in the party with some supporting the reshuffle whilst others are against it.

Meanwhile, General Secretary Franklin Fifi Kwetey had said the changes were part of the party’s reorganisation to reposition them for the 2024 elections.

He also said “the new leadership would be charged to recommend consequential changes in the Ranking membership to Headquarters of the party for approval.”
