Ghana’s Black Queens have booked a place at next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be held in Morocco.
Nora Hauptle’s charges made it to the 15th edition of the tournament despite losing 1-0 to Namibia in the second leg of the final qualifier on Tuesday, December 5.
The Queens had beaten the Namibians 3-1 at home and so qualified 3-2 on aggregate.
The South Africans pressed hard to take advantage of the away goals rule despite playing away from home, in Pretoria in South Africa.
They took advantage of a first half corner kick to reduce their deficit, the first goal to be scored against the Black Queens under Nora Hauptle.
But the Queens defended in the second half with goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan putting up superb saves to keep the qualification hopes alive.
Ghana have not made it to the tournament since hosting it in 2018.
The team joins hosts Morocco, Algeria and South Africa as the qualified teams qualified.
