Head Coach of Ghana’s Black Queens Nora Hauptle says she is happy the team is back at the flagship women’s tournament on the continent, saying the players are hungry and upbeat about playing at the tournament.

Ghana booked qualification to the tournament, to be held in Morocco, on Tuesday, December 5 at the expense of Namibia.

The Queens, despite losing 0-1 on Tuesday, qualified to the 12-nation tournament 3-2 on aggregate.

Speaking after the qualification, Nora Hauptle expressed delight about the achievement, insisting the result in Pretoria, South Africa will no longer count albeit being her first since taking charge of the team.

“The performance today is closed because we have qualified,” she told journalists at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

“Ghana is back at the WAFCON and we are hungry and willing to play there.”

She added: “I think a lot of players deserve it, some a very long time and for some maybe their last WAFCON.

“We have some young players and for them it’s their first time and we have a very young squad.”

She later expressed how “I am proud that this year we have won out of 11, 10 games and I think we can have a very nice Christmas!”

So far, hosts Morocco, defending champions South Africa and record winners Nigeria will all play at the tournament.

The rest of the qualified nations are Algeria, Botswana, DR Congo, Tunisia, Senegal, Zambia, Mali and Tanzania
