Paul Mensah Aborampah, a Senior Programmes Officer at the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has lauded the election stakeholders in the country for conducting a peaceful and transparent by-election in Ejisu.

Mr. Aborampah says there are some key indicators that determine whether an election was free and transparent, and the Ejisu exercise, possessed all those parameters.

His comments come on the back of the Commission describing the just ended process as peaceful and transparent.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3, Mr. Aborampah noted that the Commission got it right due to the factors that characterised the poll.

“In election management, you have specific indicators that you use to check whether the process has been transparent, free, peaceful and offered opportunity for every eligible voter to cast his vote and in these cause, I’ll say the electoral commission was right, both from the preparation phase to the conduct and announcement of the results,” he said Thursday, May 02, 2024.

“So, we did not hear any protest of intimidation that deprived qualified voters from casting their votes so the atmosphere was created; we did not hear any shortage of materials nor failure of BVD machines, everything went on smoothly and all those who were willing to vote were provided the leveled playing field to do so,” he added.

The CDD Programmes Manager also lauded the election security task force led by the Ghana Police Service, for exhibiting professionalism in recent by-elections, compared to previous editions.

“As one of the elections we did not see the usual disturbances that particularly characterise by-elections as you and I are aware. The election security task force led by the Ghana Police Service and the IGP have been doing well lately as far as handling of by-elections are concerned.

“So, there were peace across the constituencies as compared to all by-elections that have happened; you can talk of Ayawaso West Wuogon, Chereponi, Atiwa, Asankragwa, this election was very peaceful. We did not hear any incidence of violence along the elections,” Mr. Aborampah added.
