A 2020 independent parliamentary candidate for Offinso North, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, has said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot extend its tenure of office after the 2024 elections.
The notorious fetish priest says the abysmal performance of President Akufo-Addo, especially in his second term, will thwart the opposition party’s dream of winning the December 07 polls.
Following the commencement of the Fourth Republic, no political party amongst the two major ones in the country –NPP and NDC –have reigned beyond two terms.
However, the ruling NPP says it has what it takes to extend its two terms of office after President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, thereby coining the term, ‘Breaking the 8’.
But Nana Kwaku Bonsam, the spiritualist who revealed his interest in political affairs during the 2020 elections, says that dream of the NPP should be ditched, since Akufo-Addo’s performance, is nothing to write home about.
He was speaking with Sir John Marfo on Akoma FM’s political show, Mabatoɔ, Thursday, May 16, 2024, when he made the comments.
”President Akufo Addo has not done well at all, particularly during his second term. Although he was performing admirably during his first term, I am quite dissatisfied with the way he has handled the economy during his second term,” he said.
”The New Patriotic Party in my opinion, cannot break the eight,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, he expressed his recent affection for the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, for his 24-hour economy which he says is going to create jobs for the unemployed.
“Let’s elect a leader who will contribute to the nation’s development. You can support Cheddar or the NPP, but I support John Mahama because I believe in a 24-hour economy. The country’s unemployment will decline and new jobs will be generated thanks to the policy,” he indicated.
