Sanitation Awareness Association within the Kumasi metro has announced a 25 per cent increase in charges for usage of public places of convenience.

Whilst facilities issuing toilet rolls for their patrons have adjusted their charges from GHC1.50 to GHC2.00, those with toilet paper are now charging GHC1.50 instead of the GHC1.30 they used to charge.

Chairman of the Association, Owusu Takyi, has explained that the recent increase in prices of goods and services has warranted the adjustments.

He explains the cost of dislodging the facilities has shot up from GHC800.00 to GHC1,200.00, adding that the cost of maintenance, electricity and water bills have all been increased, necessitating the increment.

He tells Accra-based Class FM that it was necessary it increased the charges in order to provide quality service to its customers.

Despite initial complaints from users about the price hike, he said they have since understood the need for the new charges to sustain operations and maintain service quality.
