A 30-year-old man, Kofi Amofa, alias Kofi Yesu, has been arrested by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Unit while attempting to sell his elder brother’s 6-year-old daughter for GHC150,000.00.

Kofi Yesu was arrested Tuesday, July 23, 2024, around 10pm at Gomoa Buduburam, near Obolo Estate in the Central region.

Kofi was selling the little girl to raise money to acquire a visa to travel to Canada.

According to the police, they dispatched some personnel from their unit to monitor him upon gathering intelligence that he wanted to sell the little girl, leading to his arrest.

The police contracted a man to pose as a buyer who expressed interest in buying the little girl. During their conversation, the suspect, Kofi Yesu, demanded a GHC150k ransom for the six-year-old.

Upon his arrest, the Kofi confirmed that the little girl is a daughter of his elder brother, Kwadwo Brako, who resides at their hometown, Nyamebekyere, a village near Akyem Ayirebi in the Ofoase Ayirebi district of the Eastern Region.

He disclosed to the police that he asked his elder brother to allow the the girl who was staying with them at Nyamebekyere to come and stay with him to have a better education.

However, the girl whom according to the conversation between Kofi and the contracted buyer, was yet to start schooling, was going to be sold to acquire visa to travel.

Onua News’ Nana Yaw Asare reports the victim and suspect are currently with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Kasoa Police command for further investigations.
