Fierce political tension is currently building up between Parliamentary Candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Charles Bissue and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, in the Essikadu-Ketan Constituency over the rehabilitation of the Eshiem Road.

Charles Bissue in June this year made a bold declaration that the Eshiem Road will be rehabilitated before the December 7 elections, and source say a comprehensive work on the road is set to commence after great commitment from companies on the road and from the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) following the launch of the District Road Improvement Plan (DRIP).

However, a section of the road is currently being graded.

A grader with the poster of Presidential Candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, and his Essikadu-Ketan Parliamentary Candidate, Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah, has been on the road, Friday morning, working.

Sources close to Dr. Grace Ayensu Danquah have confirmed that, “Dr. Grace, having received several requests from the people of Eshiem has secured funds to reshape the road”.

Aide to Charles Bissue also indicated that their attention has been brought to the work by the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate.

“It’s a scam. She has heard that, work will begin on the road soon and has decided to cause trouble. Her plan is to move to the road and when she is stopped, she will go to town with that, to score political points.

“I will give you a simple assignment, ask the assembly whether they sought any permission. Is that not lawlessness,” he fumed.

He insisted: “A more detailed work will commence soon.”

For the people of Eshiem, they say they care less, who is constructing the road, as all they desire is for it to be made motorable.

“You should see how, dust is killing us. It’s a nightmare using the road. So, for us all what we want to see is that the road is constructed,” one resident said.

Auntie Manu, 45, a trader at the Kojokrom Market, who uses the road every day has had enough of the seemingly political rhetoric on the road.

“I will not be swayed by anything, whether the road is constructed or not, I’ve already purposed in my heart where my vote is going.”

Meanwhile, some motorists who have seen the current works are applauding Dr Grace Ayensu Danquah for her intervention.

They, however, want a well defined and lasting rehabilitation works on the road.
