Cocoa farmers in the Jomoro District of the Western Region are urging the government to urgently review and adjust the prices of cocoa to ensure the sustainability of the sector.
They claim that the numerous challenges facing the sector have led some farmers to abandon their farms and seek alternative livelihoods.
At a press conference in Elubo, the farmers stated that cocoa farming is no longer a profitable venture, particularly among the youth.
The farmers argue that a price adjustment would help address some of the challenges confronting the sector.
The 2020 National Best Farmer, Solomon Kojo Kusi, however, acknowledged that the government is making efforts to support the sector despite the challenges.

He appealed to farmers to be patient, assuring them that the sector will improve.
Secretary of the Jomoro Cocoa Cooperative Union Nana Abass also called for a regular supply of farm inputs to support the farmers.
The farmers’ demands come as the sector faces numerous challenges, including low prices, threatening the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and the sustainability of the industry.
