Substitute Milson’s injury-time strike undid Ghana’s Black Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their first game in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Played on Thursday, September 5, the game against the Palancas Negras of Angola was the second Group F game for Morocco 2025.
The first, played a day earlier, saw James Kwasi Appiah’s Sudan pip Niger to go top of the group.
With Thursday’s match all but set to end in a goalless draw, the reverse of the outcome of the last game between the two sides at the same grounds is what was witnessed.
Milson, who plies his profession in Serbia for Red Star Belgrade, scored in injury time after having spent about 14 minutes on the sub-standard pitch.
The Black Stars had dominated play in the first half but there was nothing to show for that by way of goals.
Chances that came the way of both teams were not converted until it appeared both sides had settled to share the spoils.
However, Pedro Gonçalves’s men showed grits to stun the home side after a defensive blunder by Abdul Mumin at a time with only the whistle in the referee’s mouth to blow.
With the three points in their kitty, Angola go back to Luanda a more confident side to await Sudan in their next qualifier.
Ghana’s next game is on Monday, September 9 against Niger.
The game is scheduled to be played in Morocco, where next year’s tournament is set to be held.
