Ghana coach Otto Addo has opened up about the Black Stars’ mentality following their shocking 1-0 defeat to Angola in Kumasi during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Speaking on how the players have responded ahead of Monday’s crucial clash against Niger, Addo admitted the team was initially down after the loss.
“Everybody was down, so I think the first part was surely mentally. I was down myself after the match,” he shared.
However, positive feedback from friends, family, and even press personnel gave him renewed confidence, which he passed on to his players.
“It was a really unlucky game, and this positive sign gave me confidence, and this is the confidence I was trying to give to the team in the last days.”
Despite lingering defensive and offensive issues, Addo expressed that the team looks mentally and physically prepared for the challenge ahead against Niger.
“I think we are ready for tomorrow,” he concluded.
Ghana will be confident of putting behind them the defeat against Angola and securing a win against Niger in Berkane, Morocco to get their campaign back on track.
