Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has wished all political parties well going into the December 7 elections.
He insists that from hence he is no longer affiliated to any political party and will be committed to his humanitarian work without any political influence.
”This is not about politics; I am fully independent from political influence,” he wrote in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 11.
”This is about our children, our communities, and our continent.”
Gyan, who scored Ghana’s first ever goal at the FIFA World Cup, was part of the 2024 manifesto committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), chairing the Youth and Sports Sub-committee.
But he appears to have regretted the decision by stressing that he has not been fair to the youth and people of Ghana with his affiliation.
“I believe sports can unite and inspire us in powerful ways.
”Together, we can harness that power to uplift the next generation and create a brighter future for Ghana and Africa.”
It is unclear what provoked this statement from Africa’s record goalscorer at the World Cup.
He announced that with his Asamoah Gyan Foundation, the Moah Green Foundation and the All-Regional Games, he is committed to building sports academies, training centers, and mentorship programmes that nurture young talent in all sports.
