Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has lauded Dr. Bawumia’s digital and entrepreneurial skills for the youth, saying it is the topmost policy being championed by any candidate ahead of the December polls.
He is asking Ghanaians why they would opt for any other thing other than Bawumia’s digitalisation which is the way to go.
According to him, creating a digital hub is the way to go in the current generation, touting it as the fulcrum for Ghana’s development.
The former President, at a mini rally in the Abuakwa South constituency Wednesday, November 27, 2024, pleaded with Ghanaians to vote for Bawumia to make his digitalisation agenda a reality.
He said his policies are the best and he is coming to serve the interest of Ghanaians and not just the NPP.
Kufuor believes Bawumia has what it takes to address the plight of Ghanaians looking at his quest to adopt inclusive governance if elected to lead the nation.
“I have been paying attention. Bawumia’s policies, particularly his focus on training the youth in entrepreneurial and digital skills, are good. If you don’t want this, what do you want? So I plead with you, he is not just coming for the NPP but for the whole country,” said the former President.
“He is coming for an inclusive government. His policies will alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians. I have listened to all those talking about their policies, but I haven’t seen anyone with policies as good as Bawumia’s,” he indicated.
His comments were made amid criticisms from a section of the public over his endorsement of the Vice President’s candidature for the December elections.
According to the critics which include the founder and flag bearer of the Movement for Change, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, Kufuor, as a statesman, shouldn’t be found endorsing people, especially when the person he is endorsing has failed woefully as a Vice President.
But Kufuor in responding to the backlash questioned the logic behind such stance saying there is non he could support than the candidate of the party through which he got the opportunity to serve as President.
He defended his position during an event at the Ofori Panin Palace in the Abuakwa South constituency, where he was accompanied by Bawumia’s running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
He touted Bawumia’s leadership prowess saying he has what it takes to take Ghana to the next level.
“I am facing criticism for voicing my opinions on national matters due to my position as a statesman. Experience and wisdom are often associated with age,” Mr. Kufuor remarked.
He further underscored his political allegiance and Dr Bawumia’s track record, stating:
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is my political affiliation, and it was through this party that I attained the presidency. Additionally, my child, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been elected through the party.
“During my administration, he was a member of the Bank of Ghana team and demonstrated remarkable performance during a challenging period when Ghana was in financial distress. Their efforts were instrumental in revitalizing the economy at that time.”
