A police officer has been shot dead by his colleague during a confrontation with some mourners at Abease, along the Prang to Kintampo road in the Bono East region.
The incident which occurred around 11:30am Monday, December 16, 2024 says the confusion ensued when the mourners were en-route to the cemetery.
Onua TV’s Kwabena Abisa reports that whilst the mourners were on their way to the cemetery they encountered a police barrier where their engagement with the police led to the confusion.
The situation escalated when one of the mourners insulted a female police officer, prompting her to call for backup. The responding officers clashed with the mourners where one of the officers fired some warning shots.
In an attempt to disarm him, some people tried to disarm the officer, but accidentally went off, shooting his colleague in the abdomen.
The officer responsible fled the scene after realizing the harm caused. His colleague was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to the Techiman Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
