President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SoNA) today, Friday, January 03, 2025, in Parliament before exiting office as President of the Republic.

The address is to be delivered prior to the dissolution of the 8th Parliament before the 9th Parliament will be inaugurated on January 07, 2025.

This, as contained in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, grants the President the opportunity to let Ghanaians know the state in which the country is, before exiting office as President.

Ahead of the event, scores of Ghanaians have shared their expectations with many expecting the President to apologise to the citizenry for disappointing the people.

During the phone-in segment on TV3’s NewDay Friday, January 03, most of the viewers who phoned-in said they were disappointed in the President and expected him to apologise to Ghanaians.

“President Akufo-Addo has been a great disappointment. He has failed us. He made us go through a lot of hardship, especially we women. He should come and apologise to us. He said Free SHS but the money we spend on our wards is even more than when there was no free SHS. He should apologise to us,” a woman who called from Wa stated.

Another man said “Roland, the President should be very apologetic today.”

“The expectations we had from this President was not met and he should apologise to us for deceiving us,” added another.

Meanwhile, another said although the state is not in the condition as expected by Ghanaians, the people should be grateful for what has been achieved, attributing the challenges to the impact of Covid-19 and Russia-Ukraine war.

The 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic will officially be dissolved on Monday, January 6, 2025. On that same day, the 9th Parliament will convene at 11:00 PM to elect a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.

A Monday, December 30, 2024 statement issued by the Parliamentary Service noted that the Speaker-elect and the newly elected Members of Parliament will take their oaths at midnight, marking the transition to the next legislative term.
