Ransford Edward Van Gyampo, a Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, has expressed optimism in President John Dramani Mahama becoming successful in his second ascension to the presidency.
He says the criticism the Akufo-Addo administration received is enough to keep Mahama in check with regards to the needs of the citizens.
According to Gyampo, the measure they used for the Akufo-Addo administration will be the same they will use for Mahama if he fails to deliver on the mandate given him by Ghanaians.
The political science lecturer was talking about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) attempt to criticise the Mahama government less than a week in office, saying they themselves performed woefully with the eight years Ghanaians gave them.
He avers the NPP, with the kind of leadership led by William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, does not have a clue about governance and possesses no locus to criticise the current administration, especially when they took over less than a week ago.
The Professor disclosed on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, January 11, 2025, that his outfit was presented with a paper for review which centred on governance and tends to criticise the less than a week-old NDC administration, making him inform the NPP to concentrate on building their party which is on the brink of disintegration, than to be criticising when they themselves know nothing about governance.
He says if Mahama loses focus, they will criticise him constructively to bring him back on track.
“Just as we criticised President Akufo-Addo, I do not have any cause to be scared that President Mahama will betray the trust of Ghanaians. I don’t think he will do that but in the most unlikely event that he derails, we will bring him back on track through constructive criticism.
“So, dear NPP people, your relevance will not lie in your very failed officials’ attempt to quickly offer unnecessary criticism to an administration which is less than a week old. Suddenly you’ve found your voice, you want to criticise, but do you know how to govern?
“You do not even have a clue when it comes to governance and so on what basis are you going to be criticising? So, just keep quiet, focus on your party that is in tatters, that is risking disintegration,” he advised.
