The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central in the Central region, Kwame Asare Obeng, a.k.a. A Plus, is calling on the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to expedite its investigation on the murder of Ahmed Suale.

The investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein Suale, was shot dead in Accra on January 16, 2019, in an apparent contract killing. Prior to his killing, he worked as a reporter for Tiger Eye P.I., an investigative outlet led by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, known for undertaking undercover investigations to expose wrongdoing.

Series of controversies surrounded his death following a threat issued by former Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and apparently showing his picture on TV and making some comments which many believe might have contributed to his eventual attack and killing.

The Gomoa Central lawmaker, in 2024, made a public statement that he had information about the death of the journalist.

He was invited by the police to answer questions which he did, disclosing that he named a former minister in the immediate past administration, who is allegedly involved in the journalist’s death.

In a post on his Facebook Tuesday, January 14, 2025, A Plus called on the CID to update the public on its investigations so far, or he uses his power as a lawmaker to summon the CID boss to Parliament to provide update.

According to him, if all the avenues fail, he will use his Facebook platform to update Ghanaians on the incident and name the former minister who is allegedly involved in the murder of Mr. Suale.

Last year, I was invited to the CID headquarters to provide information regarding the murder of Ahmed Suale. During the meeting, I identified a high-profile minister from the previous government who was allegedly involved in contracting assailants to carry out the crime. I also disclosed my source, a highly credible one, in the presence of the CID director.

It is critical that the CID director updates the public on the progress of the investigation and indicates with justification whether additional time is required.

At this point, it appears the matter has been sidelined. If no update is provided within 48 hours, I will invoke my authority as a Member of Parliament to formally summon the Ghana Police Service to brief Parliament on this case.

Should that fail, I will utilize my Facebook and other social media platforms to update the nation on what I know about the matter which shall include the name of the alleged perpetrator.

Thank you.
