After one and half weeks shutdown that left many scrambling for alternative water sources in the Ashanti region, the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced that it has completed the repair works.

The Barekese Water Treatment Plant has resumed full operations, restoring supply to the areas without water in the region.

The Ghana Water Company has provided an update on the work they have been tackling now.

1. Repairs work on the 12 “AC pipe burst line at Tafo near Medos Spot completed and supply restored by Suame District.
2. Repair works o. 150mm AC pipe completed at midnight by Aboabo District.
3. 250mm valve installed at North Suntreso.
4. Installation of 600mm at Suame Roundabout is ongoing.

Speaking on GhanAkoma morning show on Akoma 87.9fm in Kumasi with Sir John, the head of Production, Ghana Water Company in Ashanti Region, Dr. Hanson Mensah Akuetteh, assured of their dedication to all customers in the region.

“We are dedicated to ensuring that water is supplied to all customers as it is our mandate,” he stated.

He also announced plans to provide dedicated line for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to enable them have free flow of water at all the times.

The shutdown, which began on March 17, 2025, allowed engineers to reinforce interconnection pipelines and replace faulty foot valves—a move GWL described as “essential to prevent long-term disruptions” amid the region’s rapid urban expansion.
