The Ashanti region Ghana Water Limited (GWL) worked through the night of Monday, May 4, 2026 to repair a major pipe burst at the Anloga Junction intersection.
Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9 FM in Kumasi with Sir John on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of Ghana Water Limited, Padi Narh, said the move demonstrates urgency and coordinated response in addressing the situation.
Engineers from GWL’s Ashanti South and North Regions, in collaboration with engineers from the Department of Urban Roads, Ashanti, and with support from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) at Oforikrom, undertook the repair works on the affected pipelines.
The operation, which commenced around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, extended into the early hours of the following day, as teams worked tirelessly to locate the fault and restore the system.
He said in line with GWL’s operational protocols for rapid response to service disruptions, the intervention was carefully planned following the detection of water gushing from the intersection.
Given the strategic and heavily trafficked nature of the location, the decision to carry out the repairs at night was deliberate, ensuring effective traffic management and minimizing inconvenience to the public.
He commended the Department of Urban Roads and the MTTD officials for their invaluable support and coordination throughout the exercise, which was critical to the success of the operation.
Despite the disruption, water supply to affected communities, including Oforikrom, parts of Anloga Town, and Bomso, was maintained through alternative means, ensuring continued service delivery while repair works were underway.
He reiterated their commitment to meeting the increasing demand of our customers through our core business of production, transmission, and distribution of potable water and improved customer service in the Ashanti Region.
