Ghana Premier League leaders Asante Kotoko have issued a stern warning to media houses and journalists whom they find to be deliberately attacking players and coaches in the name of analysis.
“These calculated attacks on our players and coaches, dressed up as analysis, are nothing short of an agendum to sow disunity and sabotage the hard work being done at all levels of the club,” a statement signed by Communications Director Samuel Sarfo Duku on Wednesday, April 16 said.
“We view this as a direct threat to the cohesion and focus of the team, especially at a time when we are still firmly in the race for the double, a target we set at the beginning of the season.”
The Porcupine Warriors currently lead the log with 47 points, same as second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars SC.
They are set to face Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium in an outstanding midweek game.
According to the club, there is an orchestrated attempt by a small but loud section of the media to derail efforts by management to annex the title.
It, therefore, warned: “Asante Kotoko will not tolerate attempts; subtle or overt to destabilise this club.”
It has served notice of taking legal action against media houses and journalists who “cross the line of professional ethics and descend into defamation and mischief”.
The club also warned some supporters who are towing similar lines.
“Let it be made abundantly clear that the club will not hesitate to take decisive actions against such individuals whose actions undermine our collective interests.”
It assured its teeming supporters that the team is focused, united and motivated to win the double.
“We will not allow detractors whether from within or outside to derail our progress.”
It urged loyal supporters to remain calm as they aim to win the League and the FA Cup.
