Some aggrieved youth at Juaboso in the Western North region have sacked some Chinese miners operating in the Juaboso township over unmet promises and environmental abuse.

Tensions flared in Juaboso as a group of irate youth stormed and sacked these Chinese miners operating in the township, accusing them of reneging on their employment promises, neglecting their social responsibilities, and improperly disposing of harmful chemicals that threaten the environment and public health.

The dramatic incident unfolded earlier this week when some residents, particularly unemployed youth, took matters into their own hands after repeated appeals to the mining company, and authorities reportedly went unanswered.

The miners were forced to vacate the site as the youth seized control to prevent further operations.

Addressing the media at a press conference following the incident, the leader of the aggrieved youth, Nana Agyeman Prempeh, justified the actions taken by the youth.

He said that for years, the people have watched these miners destroy lands and water sources while failing to provide even the most basic opportunities for local employment or development support.

Nana Prempeh emphasized that the miners’ continued use of hazardous chemicals without proper disposal measures posed a serious threat to both the environment and public health.

Moreover, he warned that the youth would resist any attempts to allow the Chinese to engage in any small-scale mining in the district.

Following the incident, police have taken over the mining site to restore calm and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
