Nana Yaa Jantuah, a presidential staffer, is questioning the rationale behind the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) planned demonstration against the suspension of the Chief Justice.

She describes the upcoming protest as unnecessary, suggesting that the NDC is embarking on the exercise due to boredom from being in opposition.

Following petitions by some private citizens for the removal of the Chief Justice, alleging abuse of power, President John Dramani Mahama, in consultation with the Council of State, as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, suspended the Chief Justice.

This is pending investigations into the charges leveled against her after a prima facie case was been established from the petitions.

But the Minority in Parliament has kicked against the suspension describing it as unconstitutional.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), together with some other political parties, have hinted of a demonstration against the suspension, as well as the dismissal of some civil and public servants which they describe as being politically motivated.

Meanwhile, the former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has questioned the interest of the NPP in the ongoing processes regarding the CJ’s removal.

“When there is a need for a probe, we must do so thoroughly, and so we have to investigate the petitions. What is the NPP’s problem? Is the woman a card-bearing member or their Women’s Organiser?” she quizzed on Accra-based Asempa FM.

According to Jantuah, other individuals have been investigated while occupying similar independent positions, and she doesn’t see why the NDC is making a fuss over the Chief Justice’s situation.

“Everything the woman did that Ghanaians aren’t happy with, the NPP emboldened her, so they feel guilty, because I don’t see why they would bring parties together for a demonstration.

“They have nothing doing, and I see it as boredom. This is not the first time someone in an independent body is being probed. Charlotte Osei and other people went through it, so what is the NPP’s problem?” she stated.
