The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee has announced that the current Elections Calendar for the upcoming national and regional elections—initially scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025—is under review.

According to the original calendar, the outcome of the vetting process was expected to be published on Friday June 6. However, the Committee has received a number of petitions challenging the eligibility of some candidates, which it is carefully reviewing and investigating.

This is contained in a press release issued on June 7.

“Additionally, an aspirant for the position of Vice-Chairman in the Volta Region has withdrawn at the last minute, necessitating the re-opening of nominations for that particular position on Monday, June 9, 2025, for seven calendar days,” the release signed by Chairman of the Committee, Peter Agbeko said.

It added that “In light of these developments, critical electoral activities such as balloting for positions and other scheduled steps in the election process must be revised to ensure fairness, transparency, and compliance with the Association’s electoral guidelines.

The revised Elections Calendar will be published shortly, and we assure all members that the Committee is working diligently to address all issues in a fair and timely manner.”

The Committee thanks “all members for their patience and continued support” as we they work to uphold the integrity of the GJA electoral process.
