The Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem Sai, has revealed that authorities of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) have also begun investigations into matters relating to the tenure of the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Although he did not provide details, Mr Srem Sai said, “it has to do with his tenure as Minister of Finance.”

“All I can tell you for now is that EOCO and NIB are also after him,” Mr Srem Sai added.

Mr Ofori-Atta has been declared wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for “using his office for profit.”

So far, information available to the public is that the OSP is looking for him for five reasons:

    • Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance:
Contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
    • Electricity Company Contract Termination:
The termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).
    • National Cathedral Project:
Procurement procedures and financial transactions related to the National Cathedral.
    • Ambulance Procurement:
A Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for purchasing and maintaining 307 ambulances.
    • GRA Tax P-Fund Management:
Handling and disbursement of funds from the Tax P-Fund Account of the GRA.

The latest disclosure by the Deputy Attorney-General adds to the woes of Mr Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speculations are rife that since EOCO’s mandate involves crimes related to money laundering, then the former Finance Minister have have engaged in acts in that regard.

However, Mr Srem Sai noted during an interview with JoyNews that, “the fact that you are being looked for, does not mean you have committed a crime.”
