Political scientist, Dr. Joshua Zaato, has declared Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most credible and marketable politician in Ghana today.
Speaking on the KeyPoints on TV3 on June 21, Dr. Zaato praised Bawumia for his long-standing public service, integrity, and ability to evolve in Ghana’s political space without attracting personal scandal.
“Take Mahama out of the picture, and there’s no Ghanaian politician more intelligent, more humble, and more experienced than Bawumia,” he said.
“He’s been in government for nearly two decades without a single proven corruption case against him.”
Dr. Zaato also emphasized that Bawumia’s technocratic credentials and visible role in policies like digitalization and the Ghana Card set him apart.
While he acknowledged that not all his proposals succeeded, he said the Vice President’s efforts were often ahead of their time.
He further dismissed concerns about Bawumia’s faith and ethnicity, arguing that the data shows strong voter support for him even in predominantly Christian constituencies.
“He’s beaten Christians in many Christian-majority areas. Being a Muslim or a Northerner should not be used against him. It didn’t stop the current president, who is also from the north,” Dr. Zaato pointed out.
He added that Bawumia’s biggest strength is his image, clean, calm, educated, and strategic.
Dr. Zaato was quick to clarify his neutrality, saying he is not an NPP member or affiliate: “If I fall down here, the NPP won’t even know. I’ve never held a position in the party. I’m here because TV3 invited me based on my qualifications.”
