The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has been warned by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) to comply with a directive by the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The GAUA has threatened to strike if the GTEC fails to reinstate members whose allowances were withdrawn or reduced in May.

The Labour Commission on Monday, June 9, 2025, directed the GTEC to also facilitate dialogue on disparities within the Single Spine Salary Structure, and reverse a directive on office-holding.

But according to a statement issued by the Association, GTEC has taken no steps to implement these directives, demanding that the government commences what is expected or else, face another strike.

Meanwhile, the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to GTEC, demanding an immediate reversal of its directive mandating traditional public universities to swear in representatives of the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU-TUC) onto their Governing Councils.
