The Ingwenyama of the Kingdom of Eswatini, King Mswati III (Makhosetive Dlamini), has stressed on the importance of preserving African traditions, stating they are the “heartbeat of our identity.”

He has emphasised that while honouring the past, societies should critically evaluate traditions to ensure they remain relevant and beneficial.

Rich Asante culture was on display as Asanteman honoured the King of Eswatini in a grand durbar at the Manhyia palace.

People from all walks of life turned up in their numbers for the event. On a day when culture and tradition were on full display, people of Eswatini were not left out.

The King of Eswatini was accompanied by some of his elders, family members and others.

As he and the Asantehene arrived at the ground, they attracted instant cheers from the crowd as they tried to catch a glimpse of them.

King of Eswatini, Mswati III, said Traditions remain the heartbeat of our identity.

“Let’s keep story of ancestors alive. Preservation alone not enough, modernise our culture. Laws must be rested in our traditions,” he said.

He encouraged a harmonious relationship between traditional leadership and modern governance, rather than a rivalry.

He highlighted that traditions are fundamental to defining African identity and roots.

He acknowledged that not all traditions are inherently beneficial and encouraged societies to assess their practices to ensure they align with the best interests of their people.

The paramount Chief of Juaben Traditional area, Nana Otuo Siriboe, reading a speech on behalf of Asantehene, described the King of Eswatini’s presence as rekindling the secret ties that binds African thrones and people together.

“Your presence here is not just a visit, it is rekindling the secret ties that binds African thrones and people together. It is indeed reaffirmation of our shared ancestry, our common destiny and unguarded beliefs and relisilience of African continent.

“Otumfuo, our King, whose throne stands as a symbol of wisdom ,courage and unity,recognizes in you follow Ghanaian.

“Your visit shall strengthen the bonds between Eswatini and Asanteman. May it pave the way for cultural, economic and spiritual exchanges that honour our past and build our brighter future. We welcome you, may your footsteps be guided by peace, joy and purpose.”
