Former Subin Member of Parliament Eugene Boakye Antwi, wants President John Dramani Mahama to fail in his second term, believing it would give his party a chance to reclaim power in 2028.
The former lawmaker claims although he doesn’t wish failure on Ghana, he thinks his party won’t win back power if the Mahama administration fulfills most of its promises made prior to the December 2024 elections.
He believes the current Economic Management Team is unreliable, which he thinks will lead to the failure of the Mahama government. This, he hopes, will pave the way for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the next elections.
On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, Mr. Boakye Antwi, speaking on Channel One TV, noted that he is convinced the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not do much to sustain the backing of the electorates in the next national poll.
“I want him [Mahama] to fail, I want my party to win the 2028 elections. I don’t want him to fail, as in fail. But I know that NDC cannot do much in terms of what they promised,” he stated.
The former MP recalled his time in government, where internal political frictions hindered their administration’s success, a phenomenon he believes will be replicated in the NDC so that they will fail.
“I have been in government, and sometimes, as a President, your appointees will make sure that you fail. The kind of things I saw when we were in government are the same Ghanaians in the NDC, so it will be transferred across there,” he asserted.
He reiterated his lack of confidence in the government’s economic management team, which he believes will be a key advantage for the NPP in the next elections.
“I don’t want Mahama to succeed as in succeeding, because I want my party [NPP] to win… In terms of the actual management of the economy, I don’t think the NDC has what it takes,” he added.
