India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has lauded Ghana’s strides in democratic governance after practicing democracy for a little over three decades, describing the West African state as a “beacon of inspiration for the entire African continent.”

According to Modi, Ghana’s resilience and democratic maturity, which enable it to turn democratic challenges into positive results, are worth applauding.

In his address to Parliament on Thursday, July 03, 2025, during his state visit to Ghana, the Prime Minister noted that the country’s commitment to the ideals of democracy places it above its peers in the sub-region.

“When we look at Ghana, we see a nation that shines with courage, rises above history, and turns every challenge into creativity and grace. Your commitment to democratic ideals and inclusive progress truly makes Ghana a beacon of inspiration for the entire African continent,” he noted.

The elated House, upon hearing the compliments, applauded with the dignitaries present. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Ghana is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and India, focusing on trade, technology, education, and cultural exchange.

Before Modi’s address in Parliament, he had visited the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and where he laid a wreath on the tomb of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah.
