Some suspected armed robbers have shot and killed a 21-year-old Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor at Quarters Junction, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South municipality of the Greater Accra region.

Reports indicate the deceased, Desmond Adzah, was returning from his shop around 7pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, when he was ambushed and shot multiple times by the unidentified gunmen.

He was rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic but later died while receiving treatment.

An eyewitness, Ruben Kumor, told Accra-based Citi FM that Desmond is a well known vendor in the area whom many residents rely for their services.

He recounted his last interaction with him, saying “Desmond is known to all of us at the junction. Almost everyone relies on him for his services. Just after he had closed for the day, I met him and asked to withdraw GHC150, but he told me he was short on cash.

“While returning to my office to get money, I heard a gunshot. A woman nearby tried to rush to the scene, but her children stopped her. Moments later, someone came to tell me Desmond was the one shot.”

He raised concerns about the spate of insecurity in the area, despite having a police station nearby. He lamented the lack of patrols in the vicinity, which gives criminals access to attack unsuspecting victims.

“There’s a police station nearby, but we hardly see patrols at night. Even if they could assign community police—the ‘baby police’ as we call them—to patrol, it would help. Desmond was attacked just after closing his shop. This shouldn’t happen.”

The victim’s sister, Erica Adzah, suspects her brother might have been killed by his own friends, whom she believes recognised him after seeing their faces following the shooting.

“This shooting incident is not random. From what we’re hearing, he was followed and possibly targeted by people he knew. Some even believe the suspects were his friends. After shooting him, they took his bag. But because he had seen their faces, they killed him,” she said.

Some relatives tried helping out when Desmond sought their help according to the sister, but were prevented by the gunshots.

“This needs serious investigation. Motorcycle crimes are becoming too common. It’s time the government takes this seriously and acts to protect innocent people,” she pleaded.

The family and residents are calling for swift police action to investigate the killing and improve security in the area to prevent further tragedies.
