English Premier League side Chelsea have become the first winners of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup after a dominant first-half display saw them beat European champions Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the finals on Sunday.
Two goals from Number 10 Cole Palmer and one from No. 20 João Pedro handed the UEFA Conference League champions their second trophy in two months.
A frustrated PSG side saw João Neves red-carded in the final embers after an infringement on Marc Cucurella.
A filled-to-capacity MetLife Stadium in New Jersey witnessed one of the well-organised finals with PSG initially considered favourites to win Sunday’s final.
They had seen off top sides like Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami and record European champions Real Madrid to reach the finals.
Despite a good run in the knock-out stage, the Blues had faltered in the group as they lost their second game against Flamengo.
However, they bounced back to win subsequent marches, despatching South American giants Fluminense to reach the final.
Palmer got his first goal in the 22nd minute after coming close earlier in the first half.
His second came on the half-hour mark before new signing Pedro made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute.
Manager Enzo Maresca said they won the game in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Palmer was deservedly named the winner of the Golden Ball while goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was awarded the Golden Gloves.
