The leadership of Western North Region branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is utterly worried by the rising tide of malicious fabrications, doctored stories, and baseless allegations being peddled by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—especially against the government’s efforts to combat the illegal mining scourge.

In recent weeks, “there have been attaempts by some individuals to undermine and discredit politically exposed persons in the Western North Region with “completely false and baseless claims” of complicity in illegal mining,” they noted.

Among the victims are the Regional Minister, Willbert Petty Brentum, and the Suaman District Chief Executive, Vasco Obour, both of whom have been allegedly linked to the “galamsey menace.”

Addressing a press conference after a Thank You tour of the Western North Region by President John Dramani, the party’s Regional Chairman, Michael Aidoo, dismissed the “politically motivated” and “faceless voice-over” online publications, insisting they are solely meant to tarnish the reputations of the named individuals, who, since assuming office, have rather “fought assiduously” to bring an end to illegal mining.

“These acts are not just unpatriotic—they are dangerous to democratic governance and regional stability,” he pointed out.

According to him, painstaking investigations conducted by the party have exposed the online video publications as untrue, misleading, and “yet another product of the NPP’s propaganda machinery,” manufactured to deceive the public.

He questioned why anyone or any group of people seeking to govern would “intentionally” dabble in unsubstantiated claims—if indeed they have the true interest of the region and the country at heart.

“They show the extent to which the NPP is willing to go to derail progress—because they have nothing to offer Ghanaians,” he said.

Michael Aidoo remains adamant that the party will not be swayed by such vile and unpatriotic tactics and will remain firm and focused in its resolve to “reset” the country.

“Instead, we will continue to build roads, create jobs, improve education, and fight illegal mining in a structured and fair manner.”

He assured the people of the region that President Mahama and his government will work assiduously and fulfill all development commitments to them.
