A fire outbreak at Ritz Junction, a suburb of Madina in the Greater Accra region, resulted in chaos when a gunshot incident occurred, with 10 persons sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

One of the victims, Ernest Opare, indicates he sustained wounds to his forehead, back, and buttocks in the Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2025, incident.

Opare is currently receiving treatment at the Pentecost Hospital along with four others.

Speaking on Accra-based Adom FM, the victim narrated that the alleged shooter, popularly known as Area, emerged with a pump-action gun during the fire outbreak, enraged, and started shooting sporadically into the air and at people in full view of the police and fire officers.

He noted that although the officers present witnessed the incident, they couldn’t arrest or restrain him from carrying out the violent act.

Meanwhile, it’s still unclear what triggered the attack.

More than fifty wooden structures and metal containers were destroyed in the fire outbreak, displacing scores of residents.

The blaze, which broke out at a washing bay, prompted a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), with firefighters from the Madina Fire Station leading the effort.
